Subject: Couple of Minor Problems
Ok, here is the deal:
I have used my GUS for more than a year and here are a couple of
games where I am having problems with and I thought I could bounce
some of these out to the crowd.
SimCity (windows) ==> crashes windows every now and then
Rampage demo ==> works fine with SBOS, with .ADV files (crashes)
FPS Football ==> speech is studdered, else fine
Links 386 Pro ==> crashes every now and then
NHLPS '94 ==> I assume nothing new in the area
I think everything else works fine and I can't wait till the
GUS one day rules the world! (gotta be optimisitic!)
Happy Gusing!!!

Subject: DIGEST ADMIN -- TWO ANNOUNCEMENTS
Two announcements from the list administration (ok, it's just
me, but "list administration" sure sounds good!):
1] Hopefully, the problem that munged yesterday's digest will
be fixed today for this one. If you're reading this, it probably is.
I've included all the messages from yesterday, so you haven't lost any
info.
2] I've thrown together a simple bot on IRC to keep the #GUS
channel open all the time. So, go ahead and check it out. Right now
the bot is pretty dumb... maybe we can get it to subscribe people and
send them the FAQ and such later.

I saw the Doom_press_release in epas on Sunday night, but the file was
corrupted. Would the person who uploaded it, please uploaded it once more.
By the way the file is over 2Mb, is the 3D GUS driver included in it?
Thanks!

Hey,
I just got a 486-dx2 66 the other day and or course I've acquired
the NMI Procedure is disabled on the PC when I try to run SBOS.
I know this has been talked about on here before, but I dont
remeber if or what the fix was (other than another motherboard).
So, if any kind soul could pass along some sugestions I would
be in debt...
Thanks

Subject: Mega-Em password creator
Hi again,
Sorry about not saying much in that last message, it got sent
prematurely. Well, it seems that someone has deleted my password
creator from epas thinking that it was violating the Mega-Em
registration scheme. Well, since Mega-Em is not Shareware any more
and the next version will not have registration in it at all, I think
it is okay now. My other message contains a UUencoded, PKzip 2.04g
archive of my program and assembly source. Sorry for posting it here,
but many people have be complaining to me. I even had one person from
Connecticut call me long-distance on the phone (I live in Pasadena,
CA) asking what epas was (read the newsletter on the Gravis BBS).
[Hi, Jose!] BTW. could someone uudecode it and post it on the Gravis
BBS for those people without the ability toe uudecode or don't have
access to this. Thanks! Feel free to write me with comments,
questions. (I've never gotten this much mail before and it makes me
feel important :}) Remember, run Megaem with the '/reg' switch to
enter the data.

Subject: OK, help with CDrom Drive and GUS - please
I am ready to take the plunge. Speakers, cdrom, ...maybe even a new wife.:-)
I have a gus with one meg. I have read the faq (august version
downloaded today) and it did not help.
I want a cdrom to run encyclopediae, kid's educational stuff and for me
the eternal kid - the seventh guest. I am also an OS/2 fanatic so I
would like the drive to be os/2 compatible, which most are.
1) Is it best to buy a gravis daughtercard for cdrom connection? (I take
it you can jerry-rig the connector without the daughtercard, right?)
2) Is there anyone out there using a cdrom drive with both gus and os2?
(Ok, I know os/2 and gus are not getting along right now, I will be happy
to run the gus in pure dos. One day - real soon now- gravis will come
out with os2 drivers :-)
3) Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have been trying to run Dune 2 with my gus with the ail drivers, but when
I load ultramid with the -c switch, it tells me that I have the wrong

me a hint on what's going on, and how to correct it ? (BTW, I tried
the pupdate utility that came with the ail driver, but it doesn't seem
to work...)

You're not going to believe this - it uses what appears to be the
Miles DLL files. Thus, it is technically "Miles Drivers", but the GUS
doesn't have the DLL version!
Argh.
BTW, the game has a VERY shareware feel to it. IMHO, it's not worth
the price. Maybe $20-$30.

Subject: Terminator Rampage - what's the point?
OK, I got the demo. Loved the sound (well, the intro music at least, I
thought the gun sounds were only OK), liked the graphics, was
disappointed with the AI/challenge. I found the v-swap piece and scooted
around for a while. How does the demo end? Do you have to go to a
certain room? Kill all the (really) stupid bad guys? I know this isn't
a GUS specific question, but since I first heard about it here, and
members of this list told me where it was at, I thought y'all might know.
For a real GUS question, I was wondering if there was a more realistic
guitar patch anywhere? I am a guitar player, and the guitar sounds just
make me cringe (overdriven guitar that sounds like that? C'mon! Well,
the classical guitar patch is fairly realistic). I remember seeing a
mention of more patches through Mr. Dion and IdMedia (iDMedia, IoMedia, I
can't remember the name), and wondered if those were available for order
yet. Much thanks in advance!

Weeeell I got the digest but it does not seem to be complete unless there
are no messages. Never seen that before if it is so.
I got the Rampage Demo the other day and I must say I was very
unimpressed. First of all it was extremely slow on my machine. Granted I
have a 386-25, however I did notice a problem with the sound. You know
those clicks, pops, and hisses I did not believe in. Well I have them.
Has any one else had the same trouble running Rampage. If so what can be
done about the problem.
As far as the demo is concerned, I was unimpressed with the game and would
never buy it. Seems like it is a piece of hack code for the Christmas
season. Basically it is Castle Wolfenstein goes contemperary offife suit.
I only got it to see how it sounded on the GUS.
One thing about the game I had to work over time to get the thing to work.
I had about ten autoexec.bat configs before I could get the derned thing
to give me video no sound. Whew!
Well those of you who enjoyed castle Wolfee will enjoy this and the Gus
music is ok so have a good time.
Happy GUSing
